So things have been a little (or a lot) choppy recently. My beloved esports project C’mon Esports was closed down because we couldn’t figure out product-market fit. That was 2 years of work and exploration that comes down to essentially no meaningful outcome.
There are a lot of negatives from this outcome, what we could have done better and sooner. A bit more realist in our views, more urgency in our execution, more intent in our designs. But this is not the end of us, Cmon Labs the company. It was a crushing defeat but at the same time it opens up plenty of new options (more on that in a few).
During this challenging moments, I often look to ancient wisdom for guidance. In the Enchiridion by Epictetus, he said:
“Men are disturbed not by things, but by the views which they take of things. Thus death is nothing terrible, else it would have appeared so to Socrates.” (Enchiridion V)
So in these difficult days, I find myself optimistic of the possible paths that opened up after C’mon is closed down. Kind of reminds me of the old Tim Urban’s graphics, full of possibilities starting today.
We decide to take it with optimism. Cmon Esports is closed down but we are yet to throw in the towel. We are no longer tied to the esports market, and the team can build anything we could imagine.
We are already putting in the work on the next idea, taking in the learnings from our mistakes with Cmon Esports. We’re about 30 days away from v1 release. Let’s fking go!
